New Mobility Program for Junior Scholars

The FWO-funded scientific research network Integrating the History of Science and History of Humanities (HSHH) offers several mobility grants for junior scholars.

These grants can be used for short research stays to facilitate and encourage exchange and collaboration within the theme of the network, i.e. the intertwined history of science and humanities. Grants may be used to give talks, to collaborate on publications or proposals, to conduct fieldwork, to build or expand one’s network, etc. Research stays typically last between two and six weeks. Longer stays may be approved with sufficient justification.

Junior scholars (i.e. scholars without a permanent appointment) affiliated with one of the partner institutes are eligible. The grant must be used for a travel to and from the network institutes to the involved Flemish institutes (Ghent, Brussels, Leuven):

  • Researchers at one of the Flemish institutes may travel to a non-Flemish partner.
  • Researchers at one of the non-Flemish institutes may travel to a Flemish partner.

The partner institutes are Ghent University (Belgium), KU Leuven (Belgium), VUB (Belgium), Cardiff University (Wales), Leiden University (Netherlands), University of Amsterdam (Netherlands), Utrecht University (Netherlands), LMU München (Germany), Roskilde University (Denmark).

The first call deadline will be September 1, 2026. Afterwards, there are three deadlines per year: 1 October; 1 February; 1 June. Applicants will be informed of the decision within two weeks from the deadline. The call will remain open as long as funds are available.

The grant amounts to €325 per week and can be used to cover travel and/or accommodation.

Applicants should submit a 1000-words proposal including (a) a description of the planned activities and work to be carried out; (b) an explanation of how this work aligns within the aims of the network; and (c) a short justification of the proposed duration of stay.

Note: No CV is required, but please add a short bio (max. 200 words).

Applications must be sent to Richard A. Calis (r.a.calis@uu.nl).
